  1. I just started reading your mother's autobiographical book today and completed chapter 1 (all 40 pages) in one sitting. I could not put it down! I saw the beautiful picture of her mother Zaharoula right at the beginning, and read of her awful childhood years at the hands of her stepmother's xoriates- people who did not love her or her brother, but only wanted the wealth their father provided to these duplicitous, unloving charlatans. I nearly wept for her horrible upbringing. Some of the details were hard to bear, but not unheard of by me, as I heard how it was in some Greek villages in the late 1920s (the bestiality with goats, the beating, the switchings at school, the extreme poverty, the lies parents told their children to get them to behave (e.g. tha se faie o Boubounas). I'm very glad I can read her testimony.
